Road to Nuendo 15 - Nuendo 14 with 30% discount + free update to Nuendo 15

Dear forum members,

Nuendo 15 will be released sometime soon and that means: the Grace Period has started today!
In addition to that, we’re offering Nuendo 14 now with 30% discount + the free update to Nuendo 15 once available!

In case you are still on Nuendo 13 or older, or you plan to add more Nuendo’s to your portfolio, now is the right time. There won’t be a deal better than this anytime soon.

Thanks!
Timo

I’m not seeing any update offer coming from Nuendo 14 or is that something that will be available later?

Those are only offers for getting cheaper a current Nuendo 14 versions… the version 15 upgrade price will be available if Nuendo 15 will be released.

@TimoWildenhain Will this promotion still be running for people who might want to crossgrade from Cubase 15 to Nuendo 15, when N15 comes out? I assume that the current C14 to N14 30% deal will not work for C15 owners, right?

Hello, that is correct. The discount is valid only until the release of N15.

Many thanks,

Timo

Looking forward to the new improvements. It’ll surely include everything new from Cubase 15, maybe a facelift for the Dolby renderer like the one in WaveLab, and I’d expect improvements in AAF import, MXF video support… Although, according to my theory, there’s usually a ‘strong’ version and a ‘weak’ one. This time it’s the weak one’s turn.

Nuendo 14 ceases to exist as a purchase option once Nuendo 15 drops. So if you Upgrade to 14 but dont use the access code until after Nuendo 15, you get Nuendo 15.

If I buy now Nuendo 14 Update from Nuendo 13 and activate this code now do I still get Nuendo 15 for free?

Yes, you will receive a free update.

This offer is wonderful for crossgrades and for users that have not updated from Nuendo 13 to Nuendo 14, but is quite unfair for those (including me, of course) who paid the full update price when Nuendo 14 was released.

This kind of “movements” doesn’t promote loyalty, but opportunity. All of us that update (and pay the full update price) to the next version when it is released are who support each version, not only from an financial point of view, but also because we are who suffer the issues and bugs that every new version comes with, and with our feedback (an patience) contribute to detect and solve these bugs.

I think Steinberg shoud offer this same update discount to all of Nuendo users who updated to version 14 when it was first released. Otherwise, perhaps we would consider not updating to Nuento 15 until Nuendo 16 is announced and we can then take advantage of the reduced update price.

You need to read more before commenting.

Steinberg stated:
In case you are still on Nuendo 13 or older, or you plan to add more Nuendo’s to your portfolio, now is the right time.

You have Nuendo 14, buy another upgrade to 14 and when 15 launches that upgrade turns into 15.

You have Nuendo 14, if you buy an upgrade to 14, you get a new access code, this code in this grace period turns into 15.

Thanks @7am3s_UK for your message. In fact, I’vee read all the information before commenting. This is not what Steinberg has announced. If you go to the promotion page, there is no option to buy another upgrade from Nuendo 14 to Nuendo 14 (something that, on the other hand, has no sense, except if you want to expand the number of Nuendo licences, what is not my case). In fact, if you want to add more Nuendo’s to your Portfolio, you should buy a new complete license, not an update.

There are different update and crossgrade options, but always from Nuendo 13 as the most recent version to upgrade from.

Where have you read this statement?

Perhaps @TimoWildenhain could clarify this. If I already own a Nuendo 14 license, can I buy an additional update from Nuendo 13 license in order to have the free update to Nuendo 15 when it is released?

Thanks in advance

No idea what the other poster was saying, but if you already own a Nuendo 14 license, and that license was acquired by purchasing an upgrade from N13, then you no longer have an explicit N13 license required for the DAC to work if you tried to purchase another update. Your N13 license became an N14 license at that time. You could certainly purchase the DAC, but applying the DAC would fail because it would require an existing N13 license, which (in your case) was consumed by the previous upgrade.

Some people feel that way, but I think they are forgetting that they’ve been using N14 during that time. You’ve gotten the value of the software in the using of it. People who waited a year did NOT get that, and they are paying the difference for that.

During the sale, N13 users will pay ~$139 for the upgrade while on sales, compared to ~$199. When I upgrade from N14 to N15, I’ll pay ~$159. Sure, $20 may be considered “quite unfair,” but I don’t have to buy it. I could just wait a year until they have the same kind of sale for N16, NOT use N15 at all during that year, but “save” $20. I couldn’t possibly care less about saving $20 if it meant saying on N14 for my purposes, and of course because I want the patches (which you won’t otherwise get). But to each their own.

This is just good old fashioned marketing, and an effort to generate revenue by way of attractive pricing from those who didn’t upgrade yet. So in exchange for the year they didn’t get to use it, they get a token $20 while SB gets a new seat.

I agree with @Thor.HOG and @eirik_myhr that users who payed the whole price update (that’s my case) have used the tool for this time. But it is exactly the situatioin: someone who now pays the reduced update price will be able to use the new Nuendo 15, with all the valiue of using it, at a reduced price compared to users of Nuendo 14 who will pay the full price. We have also contributed, with the use of N14 during this time, to make it a better tool, because we have detected bugs and issues that other users have not suffered, and we have also given feedback about the new functions, behaviourm, etc. This demonstrates the loyalty of the client.

On the other hand, @Thor.HOG , how do you know that you will pay $159 instead the usual $199?

Of course we could wait for the N16 to come before updating to N15. This is not the argument. For me, it’s the usual behaviour of a los of brands and companies, that put the focus in getting new clients rather than caring loyal users.

Who says there won’t be a deal for N14→N15 updaters?
Btw, Nuendo is among the very few Steinberg products receiving discounts around launch time.

Which is in the future, not in the past. You’ve been using N14 for the last year. N13 users have not. Claims of you “helping the developer while using the software” and associated “pain” are specious and non sequitur in my opinion. That has nothing to do with anything.

I don’t; I’m presuming the pricing model will be consistent with the last 2 versions. If it’s $199 instead of $159, then I will make a decision then, though I’m not personally bothered by it and will buy it. I could wait until the summer when it goes on sale, but I’ll choose current value and usage over future value and usage.

Just to be clear, I’m not saying you’re “wrong” about your position. You have every right to feel exactly how you feel. I just disagree with it, and that’s OK too. We all make our own choices in the end. The only reason I posted was to point out people tend to overlook the “you’ve had access to the software the entire time” position, which I think is valid, as you purchased it for a reason.

If Timo sees this and says “you’re right, we’ll further discount the price” then I will certainly accept that

Guys, this is all about marketing, and we should welcome that Steinberg is trying to on-ramp new users and get older users to upgrade. If they give a great promo discount price to N13 users, N12 users, N11 users, crossgraders, etc., why is that a bad thing? It’s GOOD IMO. We want MORE people using Nuendo, let’s go! Get them onboard! That means more revenue to code the things we want and need, like click-and-drag ripple editing. Hint-hint reminder to @TimoWildenhain. (Come on, Timo! It’s about time!)

As for the “fairness” factor, that’s the way marketing works… there is ALWAYS going to be some group that feels overlooked or screwed with any given promo. Steinberg is aware of this and they will offer something reasonable for current N14 users at some point too, and then some other group might feel overlooked or screwed. That’s how life works. Perhaps @Thor.HOG is right that the N14 to N15 price will be $159. Who knows. Maybe they’ll extend the 30% sale? That would be nice too.

EDIT: Looks like Timo posted while I was writing my post:

Excellent.

The main thing is that we want MORE Nuendo users, and Steinberg has a pretty good track record for being fair in the pricing. If you feel overlooked today, Steinberg typically offers something for the overlooked group sooner or later. If anything, their prices are very reasonable overall, especially if you calculate over time with inflation. They’ve kept prices reasonable for years, and let’s hope they keep doing that.

And the LAST THING WE NEED is Steinberg to go subscription on us or get sold off to some terrible equity/holding firm and pillage Steinberg of their IP and eventually go bankrupt on us… so let’s let the working Steinberg revenue model keep working, or we’ll ALL be screwed.

Cheers!

Now let’s get Timo to preview some new N15 features for us! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I think you are completely missing the point.

First is the grace period. Because the release of Nuendo 15 is so close they get that upgrade for free once it’s out. If that was not the case they would feel cheated. Imagine not knowing anything about when N15 was coming and buying N14 on Thursday, and then on Friday N15 is out and you have to pay more a day later to get the next version. Heck, some users still complain because they are a day or two off from this promotion. Anyway, that is the point with a pre-release grace period.

Secondly, new users who don’t own any Nuendo at all get 30% off. That’s just a sale. Sales happen several times per year.

Thirdly, since N15 isn’t out yet you don’t have to worry about the upgrade price from a Nuendo 14 license you already own. Once N15 is released and you can actually buy it they will make the upgrade price official. As far as I recall the upgrade price from N14 is typically discounted for at least a couple of weeks. I think Thor has the pricing difference right.

The amount of money you would have saved here, even if it was twice as much as Thor said, so $40, comes out at $3 per month, or 75 cents per week. Do you drink soda? You could maybe skip a couple per month and you would have made up for the “loss”. Or if you are a professional in post production you could compare this price difference to all the other costs you have. Money for;

online storage,
online backup,
online sound effects libraries,
broadband internet,
backup “broadband” mobile internet
iLok licensing protection,
… the list goes on and on… 20-40 bucks? Over a year?..

Come on man.

Here’s another: having to have a PT subscription as a backup “because reasons” (hint).

Don’t worry about this discount. This is nothing.
