Roland Fantom won't sound notes in Cubase 12

I’m having a problem integrating my old Roland Fantom as the master controller for Cubase 12 Artist. I can’t get it to engage with the VST libraries. All I’m trying to do is get it to sound a note.

I went into Midi Port Settup and my midi connections In and Out are shown under Port System Name and Midi Remote Controller:F is shown as their usage. Both are shown as active.

In the Midi Remote Manager the Input Port and Output port show my MIDI connections and my Fantom’s status is show as Connected.

Do I need to map all the Fantom’s dials, buttons and faders using the Create MIDI Controller Surface if all I want to do is sound notes from the VST libraries? And if so, in the Functions Browser how is the keyboard icon activated to assign functions and to what functions from the menu are assigned to it?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions to resolve this issue.

Hello and welcome to the forums!

If all you are looking to do is use your Fantom keyboard to play virtual instruments, then I would recommend you stay away from MIDI Remote and Generic Remote, it’s not required.
Just make sure it is shown in the MIDI Port Setup Page and tick the box In ‘All MIDI’. This likely is already set up by default.

Next, in the Project Window, right-click an empty space in the Track List and click Add Instrument Track. Select a VSTi of your choice and you should be good to go.

If this doesn’t work for some reason, come back here and posts some screenshots along with a step-by-step of what you’ve done and where it fails.

Hi mlindeb,

Problem solved! My MIDI connects were connected to the wrong ports. It’s been a long time since I used it and somehow the inputs were reinstalled wrong. Thank you so much for your help!

Have a good day.
