Routing audio AND MIDI to a plugin

Can anyone show me how to route audio AND MIDI to a VST plugin ?
In my case I’m looking to use Arturia V Vocoder inside VST Live. This plugin needs audio (e.g. a microphone signal) and MIDI (keyboard) to work correct.
In my installation of VST Live “Essentials” the plugin says that it has no audio signal routed to its inputs, and i can’t find a way/menu/documentation to do that.
Should that be also a limitation of the “essentials” version ?

… the instrument needs sidechain to get an audio signal. VST Live does not support sidechain.
