Hello there, I’ve been enjoying Dorico since v4. There are some things still to discover and recall once in a while.
How do I implement the notation of the long rubato passage at the end of the piano piece in Dorico?
I would like to achieve something like this or this
First, apply an open time signature (shift-m x) for that measure. Then, after inputting the notes you want, go into the properties panel and change “scale” to “cue size”. If you want a more unique size, you can use “custom scale” instead. This should produce the notation you want, but if you want playback as well you might want to add some hidden tempo markings to make it sound natural.
Hi @alkeys12, as an exercise for me, I wrote the last 2 bars into Dorico using the Open meter.
(I share it for whom may be interested)
Notice:
to create the tie at the beginning of the last bar, put the first long D (RH) in another voice, then select both D (long D and the first grace note D), and press T to tie them (even if in different voices). This makes possible to have different scaling for the tied notes (then select the unwanted rests and Remove Rests from edit menu)
to write the tied quarter to eight note, you need to use Force Duration o (the letter “o”)
Then a manual note spacings change added (for the ratio), and fermata positioning in Engrave mode.
The hidden tuplet way is the best way to have the other instruments parts look good when in an orchestral context (because you don’t have too many rests to deal with), but the playback will be more workable with the open meter solution.
