Has anybody had any experience of using this processor with Cubase project? It’s supposed to exceed the minimum spec but it seems increasingly to be struggling, particularly if anything else is running. It won’t even run some of the bigger demo projects, constantly crackling and stallling every few bars. It just won’t play them so I gave up. It often maxes out at 100%. I don’t think that it’s a RAM issue because I have 32GB loaded and a 2TB SSD. Obviously with fewer tracks it copes better but even then it can be a less than smooth experience. I could of course freeze or render tracks but I don’t always want to do that at an early stage. I may have to upgrade my processor or my machine and am considering the Mac M4 as a possibility since it seems to work very efficiently with Cubase able to utilise all the threads. Has anyone experienced issues with the lower end Ryzen 5 chips?
if you think the cpu is under performing could it be latency problems? Download and run Latency Mon to see if you have any problems in that area. I have a Ryzen, no problems but I don’t know your CPU or the demo projects
Thank you for the suggestion. I’ll give it a try.
Do things improve when you increase the buffer size on your interface?
Also, problems have been reported with some AMD chips and UAD cards, if you run any might be worth having a look around to see what people say.
I think it’s specifically limited to UAD-2 solo, duo and quad cards, and the AM socket platform is the problem. Some motherboard makers have fixed it, most have not fixed it on most motherboards.
Yes they improve thanks but they don’t totally vanish. It seems to have a low tolerance for midi/VST tracks. Audio is not so much an issue.
I know there are some problems with AMD. It could be that or it could be that a 5 year old utility chip is pushing it for the latest software. It could be something else entirely of course but I’m no expert in computer hardware.
Might Google/chatgpt search “dpc latencymon Hdaudbus.sys” and “dpc latencymon ndis.sys” (the terms in parentheses) to see what they do, can they be bypassed, can you download something to make them less problematic, etc.
in Device manager: disable your internal buildt in audio. disable you lan and wan.. see what that does..
also look for updates for the drivers, update your bios if possible.
also make sure you have a power scheme like high or ultimate
