This seem to be one of little problems within Dorico. In fact, I’d really like the software to let us enter what we want, without doing what mobile phones do…
But, with the help of friends on this forum, it seems that there is no other solution than to force the duration.
This works well when you’re inputting, but, I grant you, when it comes to correcting an old file, it’s a pain.
