Hi. Sorry maybe it was asked before, but I didn’t find.
When iI drag and drop a sample from the mediabay directly to the arranger, the sample is converted to the project samplelrate and bit depth automatically (well, after meddling with the Cubase setting. Before it was a a popup window).
But it is not the case with the sampler, for some reason. Is this behavior can be fine tuned too? Right now the only way I see how to do this is by dragging into arrangements window and then into the sampler. Or converting the sample in the pool and dragging into sampler.
Why it doesn’t do this straight away? Or Am I missing, something? Or maybe the sampler doesn’t need this conversion at all? Thank you.
Correct, the Sampler Track does not convert the file itself, you can verify this by looking at the file in the Pool under Audio > Sampler Track. The Sampler Track, like most other samplers/plugins, performs Sample Rate Conversion (SRC) on playback, in real-time.
Semarus, what do you think, is it better to convert my sample library (44.1, 24bit) to 48Khz 32bit Float. Something is telling me that the offline conversion could give better quality and relieve the CPU load for later use in the Cubase Sampler.
Imagine a Kontakt instrument that uses 48k samples, but your projects are in 44.1k. Imagine a Pigments patch that uses a 44.1k sample but your project is in 96k. It is inevitable that a plugin is going to perform its own SRC. Point being, I don’t see any purpose in converting all your samples to avoid this. It’s something modern hardware can handle rather efficiently without the need for such drastic measures.
