Saving a mixsettings

Can’t figure out how I save the setting for a mix to use in another project. I’m using Artist 14

Hello and welcome to the forum,

Could you be more specific what you mean by “mix settings”? That term could mean anything from console layout, levels, plugin settings, panning and so on.

EQ, levels and plugins etc so I can use the same settings as a start for mixing next song

You could either try creating a template in which you configure all the tracks and settings you might need, and use that as a basis for your future projects, or you could use track presets to save and recall the settings for an entire track (Steinberg).
I recommend using templates anyway, and then save track presets for your most used plugin chains as an addition.

Isn’t it an easier way? Until now I used a very old Cubase (SX 3.0) and I could save the entire mix or a just some channels and use it on an other project. saved a lot of time when mixing different songs recorded at the same time.

There are multitrack presets (see the link above in the manual) which cand be saved from and to many tracks of the same type.

Tbh, I cannot imagine how saving and re-applying an entire mix to another project would make sense? Surely different projects have different track counts, track types, different instruments and recordings etc? I admit that I do not remember much from the SX days (I only had SL, iirc), so I wonder how that feature had been implemented back then.
Anyway, templates are really useful, and I wholeheartedly recommend giving them a try in the future!

I mostly record bands live with the same instruments so you save a lot of time using the same mix as a starting point for the drums for instance

In that case creating a project template as a starting point is the way to go.

Maybe a snapshot?

But you cannot transfer a mix snapshot to another project…

Again, templates. You could even, if you regularly record the same bands, prepare a template for each of those with dedicated configurations and mix settings.
Another idea could be to import all the relevant tracks from the other Cubase project, without the data, but then you’d have to move all the audio events in the new project to those tracks (oh, and it is a Pro feature anyway, so not applicable to you).

You still can - in the Pro version. Wasn’t SX the “Pro” version of the day?

I take that back. Just loaded the Artist version and you can. Preparing a screenshot…

But the channels have to exist, first!

Don’t understand what window you have open?
