My first attempt at the new score editor…
First impression… I’m not a fan. I read another post about not being able to do simple things like the old version. I’m not scoring for an orchestra. Just would like to print out a sheet to play off of.
I’m trying to print out a bass part - it took a while to get it to look rather simple. However, every tempo change is displayed. How can I turn that off? It not only clutters the sheet, but multi bar rests are not grouped because (apparently) there’s a tempo change… hmmm…
So… I attempted to export the tracks I wanted to print - 1st as an .xml file to load into C13.
Then I exported the whole project to a MIDI file, but the meter events didn’t get exported…
So… I’m disappointed that Steinberg went in this direction.
Hi Bob,
sorry to hear the new Score Editor doesn’t work for you yet. There are lots of snippets of information in your post, I’d like to clarify a few things if you don’t mind.
We currently synchronise each tempo item in the tempo track, but small successive changes get filtered out automatically based on a static internal threshold. It appears that in your case, that idea in general doesn’t apply well, or the threshold isn’t appropriate. It you could share a small portion of your project, that’d be interesting to see. You can hide indidual tempo markings by selecting them, then find the “Show in Score” entry in the info line, toggle that.
As for the bass part you mention, without any further information (screenshot, ideally a project file), it’s impossible to comment in detail. The display quantize settings inside Instrument Settings / Interpretation ought to give a starting point for legible notation.
As for the mult-bar rests, this should start behaving better if you remove the tempo changes you don’t want to see. There are also more settings to refine the rest behaviour in Layout Settings / Bar Rests.
Some additional context for understanding: I have similar issues with tempo items as I have some projects where live audio playback with tempo fluctuations is synced to MIDI via a tempo track with many tempo events. I often use this to transcribe/arrange a song.
Actually, if anything, I only need a tempo indication at the beginning of the score and preferably independent of the tempo track.
I tried it. When I mark a tempo event in the score, no info line appears. When I mark a note, the info line appears.
But it would generally be very, very good if there was always an info line for all elements with the toggle “show in score”.
That wouldn’t be a good solution for me, as unfortunately there is only one tempo track and I don’t want to change it just for the score.
Please give Cubase several alternative, switchable tempo and chord tracks (an old topic)!!
Thanks for the project file, that’s really helpful particularly in combination with annotated screenshots.
I realised, currently, selected tempo items don’t actually show contents in the score editor info line. However, if you add/show the tempo track in the project window, you can select individual tempo items (or indeed several of them), and edit the “Show in Score” value in that info line. We’ll improve that in a future patch release.
We’ll also bring some control over bar numbering in a future update. An option to set a fixed number of measures per line is already available in Layout Settings / Staves and Systems. Alternatively, you can set manual system breaks on selected items via the Score menu. I’ll need to check with colleagues regarding multi-measure rest settings.
Thanks for that project file. It turns out, we’ve missed to do the correct display quantization for chords, and therefor the rhythmic alignment with the notes is lost.
We’ll fix that in an upcoming patch release, though sadly not for the very next one. In the meantime, you can drag the chords in the chord track such that they snap to the start of the bar.
