How can I assign a keyboard shortcut to a script? (on Mac)
If you save your scripts in the Script Plug-ins folder in your Dorico user config folder, then it will show up automatically under the Script menu, and you can use any third-party macro program (like Keyboard Maestro or Auto HotKey) to assign a key combination that will select this menu item.
(Your Dorico config files are under /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Steinberg/Dorico 6 on Mac and c:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Dorico 6 on Windows.)
If you want to assign a key command within Dorico, then you need to edit your key commands JSON file by hand. This is not difficult, but it’s also not dead easy; would you like further instructions for doing this?
I think you can actually assign keys to Scripts using MacOS’s built -in keyboard shortcuts panel in System Settings, because they appear as menu items.
You can also assign shortcuts to them using the Jump Bar in Dorico.
Thx guys, I’ll try those…
Can you please tell us how to assign shortcuts in the Jump Bar? Thank you
There are a couple of different ways to assign jump bar shortcuts. You can do this in the Key Commands dialog.
You can also do it directly from the jump bar.
-
Call up the Jump Bar with
J; make sure the Commands tab is selected -
Start typing the name of a command
-
If the command you want is not highlighted, arrow down until it is
-
Put the cursor after the highlighted text at the top and type
=followed by your desired shortcut -
Hit Enter
