Segno symbol not showing when using Petaluma music font

In my project, D.C., D.S. and Coda text indications display correctly, but the Segno symbol itself does not appear at all when the Petaluma music font is selected.

Petaluma doesn’t have the “Japanese” segno glyph, so make sure you have “Conventional” selected in this Engraving Option.

I remember having problems with the segno symbol as well, especially with fonts that are not included in the Dorico bundle. Sometimes it helped to switch back and forth between Bravura and the desired font. Sometimes it also helped to save the project with the desired font and then reopen it.

The solution that finally worked for me was this:

  • Go to Library / Music Fonts

  • Change the Music Font from Petaluma to Bravura

  • Then change it back to Petaluma

  • Do not check “Update text fonts”

After doing this, the Segno symbol appeared correctly again.
