I would very much like to see the capability to select all the highest or lowest notes in a MIDI part using a command.
The process of many composers involves “playing in” the chords/voicings of an orchestral or band section while triggering a piano sample, then separating the notes into the various instruments comprising those sections from highest to lowest (or vice versa). Being able to select notes at the high or low end ranges greatly facilitates this process.
Logic has had this feature for some time, and I know a number of Cubase users have requested it. It is a godsend to composers. Isn’t Cubase positioning itself as THE option for film and media composers?
(BTW I am aware that there’s a workaround involving opening up the part in the score editor and then “exploding” the part. It would nice to be able to bypass these steps using one simple command)
you can also in the LE functions
choose to copy the highest notes of the chord or the lowest and paste them on a new track in order to separate the strings for example because I think that’s what you want to do
I’m finding your method works well up until the chord is left with two notes. At least I think that’s why it quits working at that point. I’ll keep poking around the LE and see if I can solve this.
I’ve been obsessed with this issue for a few months now LOL. Logic has this function, and I’ve even considered switching. For years, I’ve used the method where you simply open the Part up and then select the notes you want using the range tool. Which works. But it’d be nice if it could be done with a keystroke.
