It would be super helpful if you could still select bars when not showing rests in empty measures. A lot of time I need to select a range of measures or an entire staff to copy it somewhere and if you do not have rests showing then you can not select it. 1 way that could work is instead of just not having the rests, have the layout option essentially make the bar rests opaque. That way, when you select a measure with no content it selects the ‘hidden’ rest. This was you can still select a whole staff to copy it, or swap material into etc. Here is an example, though It is not yet practical for a workaround since when you delete music from a measure the colored rest returns.
