select tool changes to draw tool on drum controller lane

for some reason my select tool changes to the draw tool when I’m trying to edit velocity in a drum controller lane, if I click and select the select tool it changes right back to the draw tool. is there a solution to keep it the select tool

nevermind, I see the process is to select the midi note first, instead of tying to select velocities.
