Selection in Write not activating correct channel in Play?

I keep getting into trouble when I’m notating a passage in Write mode, and then want to immediately jump to Play mode to tweak velocity and CC channels. Usually I start working on the channel that’s currently activated — which is NOT the staff on which I was just notating. Then I have to retrace my steps and land on the right channel.

Is there something I’m missing here? Is there a toggle somewhere to insure that a selected passage in Play mode will automatically activate the appropriate Play channel for that passage?

You can now use the lower panel key editor in Write mode to tweak CCs. No need to go to Play mode.
