Self-recorded audio files are not played in C13.0.41

For some time now, C13 no longer plays self-recorded audio files. All other audio files or VST instrument tracks do. I have deleted and reinstalled all Cubase versions. But nothing has changed. The corresponding files are stored in the respective project folder under Audio. An attempt to play the file with the media player also failed. It says that it is a faulty file. However, the file name ends with filename.WAV
It affects all self-recorded files, even the older ones. The recordings are instrument and/or vocal recordings.
Thank you very much for your support

Hi,

Could you attach a screenshot of the message, please?

Are you referring to audio files recorded with another application that you’ve imported into a Cubase project?

No, the audio files were recorded in Cubase. Audio files that I have imported into Cubase are played.

I have attached a Cubase project. Maybe that will help

There’s no project in the attachment, just a screenshot of a folder. But anyway, the issue seems to be solved according to the same thread you posted in the Forum auf Deutsch.

The problem with not being able to play my own recordings remains. The error message that I can play the corresponding audio files in the media player has disappeared. To clarify once again, I can play the audio files that cannot be played in Cubase via the media player, but unfortunately not in the Cubase projects. 5 MB of the file attachment was probably too large. So now a new attempt

A new test with zip.

Audio-Am Tag als.zip (2.31 MB)

The Cubase project has arrived and is running, but all the audio files are missing. These however, are crucial for checking the playback in Cubase.
So, if you don’t mind, please upload only one single audio file that doesn’t work in your Cubase setup. Before upload, pack it into a ZIP archive. Max. file size allowed is 4 MB.

Here are some small events of the Altsax track. However, I have stored the pool and the project folder on an external cloud drive.

Name of the folder: Cubaseproblem

[1] All audio files are OK and playable in WaveLab, SpectraLayers and MPC-HC.
[2] The project is also OK and can be opened in Cubase.
[3] Missing audio (.wav) files are reported in a popup when opening the project. The files are audio clip edits, which are automatically generated in the background by Cubase when changes are made to an audio clip.

[4] Some of the audio files’ waveforms are displayed empty in the pool and cannot be played on existing or inserted into new audio tracks.

[5] Comparing the file names reported in [3] and the file names with empty waveform in [4], it’s obvious that they belong to the same clips.
[6] This leads to the conclusion that the missing files in [3] are the reason why the files in [4] are not displayed and played back properly in the project.

Good morning ASM,

First of all, thank you for the information and background to the problem.

However, I still have 2 questions so that this does not happen again:

  1. how can it happen? I have deliberately not changed anything except for installing the updates

  2. how can I repair it without re-recording?

Thanks for your Answer

[1] The file references in the project obviously refer to a folder Songs on drive A: that doesn’t exist currently, possibly a removable drive (e.g. USB stick) which isn’t connected.

[2] If the missing files are still accessible somewhere, the references can be redirected to them in the popup Resolve Missing Files (buttons Locate/Folder/Search); then the corresponding tracks should work again normally. Otherwise, the only way out is to re-import the existing original files into the corresponding tracks, however this will cause the previously made edits to be lost.
