Semibreve plays as minim

Another day - another (no-doubt) rookie problem! I have entered a semibreve strings chord but it plays back as a minim. So does the next one in the following bar. I’ve tried lots of things including deleting the bars and re-entering, restarting Dorico, etc, etc. The chords follow an extensive section of spiccato work but I can’t see how that should affect them. I’m using note performer and east-west and the effect is the same on both. Any ideas?

Hi @Tony_Biggin, since the Spiccato Playback technique is a Direction one type…

… make sure it has a defined length (see the end control point), after which the playback returns to Natural (Even so it would be helpful for the player to have an indication where to return to natural(ord.):

You could also activate the line visibility:

If it has no length it will continue to be applied for the rest of the flow (Direction), or until you insert a Natural or Ord. Playing Technique.

Thanks Christian - that worked. I had previously created a playing technique called ‘non-spicc.’ and mapped it to ‘legato’ which clearly didn’t work. I don’t think I need or want the ord marking to appear on the score or parts as it’s obvious to a player what is required (difficult to play a slow semibreve spiccato!) so I’ll probably try to find out how to hide it. Many thanks for your help though. Really useful.

If you give the spiccato a defined length (prolonging I with Shift+Option(Alt)+right arrow), you don’t need any other sign (see my first music screenshot above).
