Would like being able to define an amount of songs that shall become pre-loaded. VST Live should always load this amount only and when the next song is opened keep on loading the next ones, but no more than the specified amount of songs.
This way I would like to reduce the loading times of the project and to save RAM if not all the songs are being loaded
Ignore preload then I usually donāt use preload
That request has been issued before. Itās not applicable, and also counter-productive; if a Song was activated, I want it to play free of hussle, preloading in the background would severely reduce performance.
Furthermore it is not possible without entirely blocking everything in the first place - as is the case when you apply the preload function, or select another Song.
Well, I agree that there would be audio dropouts when the next songs are being loaded. Thatās why I suggested to add something like a āpauseā or ābreakā song in the middle so that everything to this point is being loaded and the rest becomes loaded as soon as this ābreakā song is reached.
Maybe there is a pause or a break after 3 songs. So then my idea would be to insert such a break in VST Live and once I reach it the next songs are being loaded until the next break would be inserted by the userā¦
I think this way it could work and also increase loading time and RAM usageā¦
You appear to be very anxious about RAM usage.
With nowadays systems, you barely ever have to worry about that unless you use multiple instances of samplers, even then, those usually have their own memory management for such cases.
Other than that, use shared Layers, those use close to no memory at all except of course for the ārootā instance.
Well, I once had a project with so many Komplete Kontrol layers running, that my physical memory ran out. I the meantime I figured out that I can purge Kontakt instruments. But still Iām afraid that my RAM wonāt be enough eventually. Also it took so long to load all of the songs at this time I was doing this projectā¦
So set your first 2 songs end actions to play next and the 3rd one to stop.
If Kontakt is causing issues (and it can be very hungry for ram and cpu) I would look at smaller samples, another sampling solution, or resample it into something a little leaner, or get the fastest (Apple M4?) computer that you can.
If I do this, will VST Live only preload the first 3 songs?
Disable preload altogether ⦠the song will be loaded at song change, itās only a second or two of load between songs, perfectly fine if you donāt need immediate switch. Parts will always be loaded for the entire song. Only the active song will be in RAM.
So, if I need immediate seamless play I glue two songs in one, using parts to differentiate between songs.
If I donāt need seamless joint between songs I simply donāt activate preload.
I have all songs set to to stop at marker end and use a footswitch to send command switch to next song and record (or play).
Ok, that doesnāt sound too bad. Of course it would sound better if VST live would pre-load all the songs until the song that has a song action set to āstopā. But good to know, thanks!
ā¦. And when you hit play it will play song 4 if your song 3 end action is Goto Next.
I need to eventually figure out how this works. So far I couldnāt record whole songs yet as too many things are not working fine for me yetā¦
to be precise, āthere are many things you to discover how it is working in VLā.
Well, if volume sliders do not work and suddenly things like octave transpose do behave different after closing and re-opening a project I wouldnāt say that this belongs to my (missing) knowledge (even if Iād prefer it would be that way)ā¦
