I switched over using Nuendo on a Mac. Before that in WIN a mouse wheel “click” changed the clipgain by ±1db. Now on Mac it is 0.1 db and changing depending on how fast I scroll. That does not make sense to me. Any way to change this? (I use a Logitech mouse)
Thank you!
In both cases I believe the mouse behavior in Nuendo is OS based. Try making changes to the mouse setup and see if that helps.
Thank you, I already checked that, but didn’t find a setting which could adress that. Do you have any idea? Furthermore, using the mouse wheel for clip gain in Pro Tools on the same OS works exactly as it should.
Oh no, I use this all the time in Windows and am planning a switch to Mac - I hope there is a workaround for this!
If anybody working on Mac OS could confirm, if this is just a faulty behavior on my system? I do not think that everybody else is working with 0.1db steps?
If you mean changing the event volume by hovering over the top toolbar ‘Volume’ and scrolling - I’m getting nice and easy 1dB increments!
I had some scrolling issues with a logitech mouse and ended up going back to a cheapo mouse because of what I think was issues arriving from the logitech software. Do you have ‘smooth scroll’ or some other non-standard setting activated in there which could cause issues perhaps?
Same here: if you also hold shift then it increments in steps of 0,05 dB.
In Windows, you only need to be hovered over a selected Event to adjust the gain with the mouse wheel, in 1dB increments, as opposed to the Volume parameter in the top toolbar. Intuitive and easy. This takes care of about 90% of my mixing needs (dialogue editing, short sound edits, etc.), and I use the volume lane nested under the audio track for more continuous automation, when needed.
Thank you everybody. Like Rodney said, it is just about selecting one or more Events and immediately turn the mouse-wheel. ±1db in Windows. A step of 0.1db does not make sense for this kind of editing. (Same workflow to find in Pro Tools, working there on both Mac And PC, with the difference that you can set up the fixed amount you wish in preferences)
Agreed. I don’t know why it’s doing that on your system but there’s a workaround. Select the event and use the key commands for increment/decrement event volume.
Also try clicking on the value once and then using the mouse wheel. This too should normally allow changing the value in 1dB steps.
Stingray, thank you, but just to make sure: You are also on Mac OS and you do not have this issue? (I am still on Monterey, and for a second checkup I also installed Nuendo 12, same thing…)
Sorry I should have mentioned that! I’m on Windows and I don’t have this issue.
For what it’s worth: I just tested the feature on a M1-based MacBook Air running Nuendo 12 under macOS 13.7.1. Here, the Event Volume changes in full db-steps when hovering the cursor above the read-out in the Info bar, using two-finger drags on the touch pad.
EDIT: … and any (!) of the four modifier keys (Shift/Cntrl/Option/Cmd) seems to change the incrementing value to +/-0.05 dB. … didn’t know that.
@Domilik not sure if it’s the same on Mac but this setting in Preferences set to ‘Increment/Decrement on Left-Click and Drag’ might provide an alternative to the mouse wheel.
This should give 1dB steps when you click and drag on the value, or finer steps if you drag while holding down a modifier key.
Yes there is a difference in mouse wheel i mac os vs windows.
As a “workaround”, i use an app called usb overdrive.
You can edit all mouse functions for different apps ( ie, one setting for nuendo, diferent for chrome etc). Settings are switched automatic, depend on what app is in focus…
There is a setting called “wheel scroll = one line”, or something like that.
It fixes clip gain to 1db inc/dec, and also makes vertical and horizontal scrols and zooms better (at lest for me).
I beleve app is free
Hi Soundcage, thank you for that tip, I will try it! For now I switched back to my old PC and do the job on Windows. I do not use Nuendo that much any more, but for this Project I wanted to try it on my Pro Tools Mac, but this was not working for me. Next time I try the app you recommended…
