Good Morning Friends, I was doing really well in Dorico and then LIFE happened and I didn’t score anything for at least a month. Now, getting started again seems frustrating at best. I am scoring an SATB/Piano piece and I just input the piano introduction, but I want all four measure on the first stave. When I move the 4th measure to the previous system, it’s all jammed up and you can’t see the ties. Any help is appreciated. TYIA. Below are two screen shots of the before and after.
Reduce your Note Spacing, found in Layout Options. Try 3 1/2.
You’ve asked Dorico to fit more measures on a system than it thinks it can, so it will do the best it can with the constraints you’ve specified. If you want those 4 measures together, I think you need to give Dorico some room to play with, either by changing the note spacing values (for that system, or globally) or by using a slightly smaller space size.
You might start by removing your system breaks, so that Dorico spaces everything automatically, and then making a couple of these global changes, in small increments – you may find that with a couple of small tweaks, that measure pops back up into the first system all by itself.
I would also suggest that you enter all of your music first before doing any layout work. There are several global settings which may help music fit automatically without manually pushing things around (staff/space size, note spacing, space between staves, etc).
Thank you for that! I was doing really well in Dorico (from Finale) until a death in the family. Now I’m starting over - literally. Arggggg. So - maybe I’ll just set everything back to “factory setting” - input the piece and then mess with global settings?
