Please allow the user to start the playback by double clicking while holding down the keys SHIFT and OPTION (ALT). Double clicking in the ruler is nice, but shift+alt+d.click would be faster. Thank you.

And just pressing space bar is even faster still!
I prefer separate keys for start and stop (shift+z / shift+x). Anyway, my point is that if you can reposition the cursor with a click (in the window area below the ruler), you should also be able to start the playback (with one additional click).
