Shifting notes left/right in staff without modifying others

What’s the right way to shifting existing notes left/right in staff (say all notes starting from some position, or all notes until some position) without shifting the location of notes in other staves?

Inserting/removing bars shifts the notes on all staves, which makes sense, but I don’t know what to do in case I want to align existing notes in a staff differently to another existing staff, without changing that one.

  1. Select the notes.
  2. Set the grid value to whatever’s useful.
  3. Use Alt+arrow keys to shuffle left or right.
