Shortcut for adding parentheses to a courtesy accidental

Is there a shortcut for adding parentheses to a courtesy accidental? And can this be set globally as a preference?

Yes. In key commands, search for “toggle accidental” or something like that.

For global (per-flow) settings, see here:

Note that there are four choices in Properties > Notes and Rests > Accidental, so this command cycles through them all. (The word ‘toggle’ is a misnomer.) The first time does Show, then Hide, so to get to Round Brackets you’ll have to hit it 3 times.

For your purposes, check out Notation Options > Accidentals > Cautionary Accidentals.

I tried this, but couldn’t get it to work. I’d like to assign the letter P to create a cautionary accidental to appear with round parentheses.

I open Preferences, went to Key Commands, couldn’t find anything about toggling accidentals, clicked on Set Accidental, where I see a number of choices, but nothing about showing an accidental, nor about parentheses.

What am I doing wrong?

Grateful for any help!

Hi @SteveMain, maybe you are looking for this key command?

Be aware, when you decide what shortcut to assign, that P is default for start playback from selection, so you may want to use some modifiers, or another shortcut for you accidental.

Thank you!
