Shorten duration and remove rests

I’ve got a 3 bar phrase of 1/4 notes that I’d like to convert to 8ths. There’s no problem shortening the duration of the notes, but that leaves the rests in between. Am I overlooking some obvious way to squeeze out those rests? AFAICT all the options under Edit Duration leave the rests. Right now it’s a tedious process of grabbing the notes after the first rest, moving them over an 8th, then deselecting and re-grabbing and moving again, etc?
