I’m writing a piece for chamber ensemble and fixed media, and I’m trying to find a quick way to show the full fixed media part in all the instrument parts…My first thought was to add the fixed electronics part to each ensemble player, and then change the staff size, but the formatting got all weird because dorico thinks it’s a single person changing instruments…is there a quick way to basically create a cue for a full part? Or did I just dig myself into a hole
If you have a separate “player” that represents the fixed media, go to Setup mode, select the part layouts on the right side, and then check the box next to the fixed media “player” on the left to add it to each part layout. Then rename part layouts if needed so they don’t list the fixed media in the layout name. Then, part by part, you can reduce the staff size of the fixed media or hide/show it as needed.
Mattie, how have you added that part?
If you add the fixed media as one new player in the Full Score (=as a separate system) you can use this to add cues of it to all other players, where needed. You need Dorico Pro for this cueing function.
If using Dorico SE or Elements you will have to add that system to the layouts, as suggested by yourself and described by @adtino above.
This helped thank you!
I had the part as a separate player and I originally just had cues in, but when the players started rehearsing we realized it would be helpful to have the full electronic part written in each part as well thank you for this though I appreciate it!
On a similar vain but different note though, do you know if there is a way to make cues appear on their own stave above a measure in a part, sort of like the way an ossia looks? Is there a way to adjust the cue settings so some of them appear that way?
You could maybe try manually adding a staff above the instrument and entering the cue there? You can change the size of it as well.
You can also hide staves as well (if you use the separate player as a cue staff then you can hide it here and there).
Thanks for this!
