Show or not show transpositions in full score and parts staff labels

Hey everybody, I’m pulling out my hair with trying to change multiple options to get what I’m looking for.

This piece is score for 2 Trumpets in C and 2 Horns in F. I’ve don’t feel like I need to express the transpositions in the staff labels for these instruments on every staff, so somehow I figured out how to indicate “Trumpet in C 1”, etc., on the first staff of the piece, but just “Tpt 1” on each subsequent staff:

The problem I’m now having is that all of the parts with transposing instruments look something like this “Trumpet in C (C) 1”, which seem redundant and unnecessary.

Is there a way to get what I’m looking for in the parts also?

In Layout Options > Staves and Systems > Pitch and Transposition if you unclick “Show in abbreviated staff labels” does that do the trick?

Easiest way is to just edit the Layout Name in the right-hand column. You’ll have to do the numbering manually.

Another option which is more involved is to edit the Page Template to use FullStaffLabels rather than LayoutName as the token.

No. That doesn’t seem to have any impact.

How do you edit the layout name?

Just Double-click and type in the name.

Does that work in Dorico for you? It doesn’t work on my end.

Yes it works! You can change either the Player Name or the Layout Name by double-click.

Or right-click, Rename

Ah I see! I was looking at that same menu in Layout Options (where you cannot click it). You are looking at it in Setup Mode – and yes, I now got it to work!

So many things in Dorico are “simple”, but you have to sift through the 300 options it could be before you arrive at it!
