I downloaded the latest version (which I own), but it’s not showing up in Groove Agent 4. It does show up in GA SE5. I’m running Cubase Pro 11.
Sorry, but Simon Phillips Jazz Drums is not compatible with Groove Agent 4. You need Groove Agent (SE) 5 or higher to use this expansion.
And not compatible with Groove Agent 6 !!! Only 5!
This looks like a misunderstanding. It works in Groove Agent SE 6 as well, but I had to rescan the folder. Actually all the existing Groove Agent SE 5 compatible kits should work. I guess @Romantique_Tp was referring to the system requirements, they still list only version 5 and need an update.
Troubleshooting:
Always make sure that you have the latest version. Open the Steinberg Download assistant and give it some time to see if there are any content updates. If it finds something, install it. We did some updates to libraries, especially for Media Bay visibility.
Here is what I had to do for a rescan:
Open the Media Bay.
Go to the browser tab.
Find the library under:
/VST Sound/Groove Agent Content/Simon Phillips Jazz Drums
Select the entry and enable search subfolders and auto search.
If it does not start showing the kits etc. disable the checkbox infront of the SPJD folder, remove, and then re-add it.
Let me know how it goes.
Hi, i have the same issue with SPJD not showing in GA5 and GA5se (didn’t install 6 yet)
all other GA libraries are ok.
my all Steinberg libraries are inside one folder with no sub folders on second internal disk other than C:
anyway, i did rescan that folder in Cubase 14 media bay with no help, also removed the check sign next to the folder, assigned again and seems it wont do anything.
all Steinberg software are updated on win11
On my system everything is in one folder as well, on an external drive. Did you give it enough time?
One more thing you could try is doing a right click on the folder and refresh the view.
It was fixed by rescanning in the Media Bay Explorer.
But I have Essential Jazz and Modern Essential Jazz and there was no problem and no need to rescan. I would say something’s wrong with Simon Phillips Jazz Drum.
Yea, I agree. On the other hand, the Simon Phillips libraries are some of the bigger libraries, so maybe it is just the size. In any case, we are looking into this.
i tried it with no results.
just to clarify, in Cubase media bay i don’t see any content under that “Steinberg library folder” as all files are sound preset files,
in GA i see all libraries as icons, except SPJD which wont appear.
Didnt check Halion 7 and other stuff, but there i think all is fine.
anyway, i noticed this issue after the late updated of GA and content probably.
it came to my attention from some posts here in the forums, as i didn’t use that library for some time.
but there is a new project upcoming in next week or 2 which ill probably need it
Also updated but no problems at all. Nuendo 14/Groove Agent 5, all latest.
But I also never had any issues with drum libraries before. Also I don’t use the Mediabay for Instrument Libraries, like GA, Halion, etc.
I only use the Steinberg Library Manager if I want to check something. There is also a tab Groove Agent and all the installed libraries are shown there. When you click on details, it shows also the location on your drive.
If you use the Steinberg Download Assistant, maybe a reinstall will help.
I love the Omnivocal beta. I’m getting into the IPA transcription.
Where you able to solve this over the weekend?
If not we could try trashing the Media Bay database, or move it elsewhere so that it will not be found. But first, restart your system please. Just to make sure everything is initialized properly.
I got no Windows machine at hand right now, but from the top of my head, I believe the file is here:
%appdata%/Roaming/Steinberg/MediaService/mediabay3.db
Let me know how this goes.
I found the mediabay3 at %appdata%\Local\Steinberg\Steinberg MediaBay Server.
I renamed it and started GA6SE. It did build a new mediabay3 and SPJD shows up!!
i found “mediabay3.db” file in Cubase 14, and other Steinberg’s instrument folder, at %appdata%/Roaming/Steinberg
i moved the ones from Cubase 14, GA5,and GAse. cubase rebuild it, but SPJD didn’t show up, and after another try, Cubase halion and GA mediabay and loading time of instruments were broken. after few tries restarting system and cubase all run as before now, but again without SPJD unfortunately
Ill try now HeinzOchsner directory Path, cuz its probably the right one on windows.. ill update how it goes
EDIT: after deleting mediabay3.db on the right directory ,Now SPJD shows up ! ![]()
Thanks guys
Glad to see it works for others as well. Having gone through the forum, I realised that it is not the first time the GA installer messes up with the Mediabay.
Just for clarification: It is not the installer but the interplay of the components.
We do not yet have a definitive way to reproduce this reliably, but we think it might be caused either by the media bay not shutting down during the a content update, or because there is still a program such as Cubase or an instrument running in the background. In any case, for whatever reason, the Media Bay fails to update the database.
As soon as we can pinpoint exactly what is happening, we can think about fixes for the situations.
This is why for some, after a system restart, or waiting for some time, it miraculously worked.
Please also note that deleting the mediabay3.db should always be the last resort only, as it will nuke your tagging and rating.
Thanks for this clarification. I had this problem in two cases: One with an existing Cubase 14 installation, the other one was a clean installation on a new laptop without any other Steinberg product running. I am usually doing the “install all” way. However Dorico, including all the libraries and SPJD were both already installed I still have the old madiabay3.db file. I could provide both if that helps. They are both about 50 MB, so posting here is not an option.
This was something I experienced recently. I ‘asked’ Mediabay to scan the drive that contained the SP Jazz Drums - no luck. tried again - no luck.
So, in desperation I got Mediabay to scan all my drives. Et voila! SP Jazz Drums appeared!!
Possibly there was traces of an older inatall somewhere, I don’t know??
Worth a try…
It would be a big and very necessary improvement, if mediabay tagging and rating could be exported from and and reimported into Mediabay. It could be written in a way which would just drop tags an ratings for eventually not existing content. Should be no rocket science, because the possible kinds of conflicts or missing content seem to be very limited.
At several points over time, I have had to delete and rebuild the Mediabay, and this means massive destruction of months of continuous work on tagging and rating.
