Hi,
I’m using Groove Agent 5 with the Simon Phillips Studio Library, and I’m noticing a strange behavior on the toms.
When I hit the same tom twice in quick succession (mid tom or floor tom), the second hit sounds unnaturally shortened, almost like the room mic suddenly drops or the decay collapses. It’s not a full choke, but more of an “artificial off-mic” or envelope reset effect. The second hit loses body and depth compared to the first.
This happens even at moderate tempos and is very noticeable in tom fills and rolls.
Things I’ve already checked:
-
Buffer size and Max Preload (no effect)
-
Disk streaming (no dropouts or glitches)
-
Velocity and MIDI timing (normal)
-
I cannot find any editable Voice Mode / Polyphony / Exclusive Group controls for these toms in the Simon Phillips kits (seems locked)
Questions:
-
Is this behavior intentional in the Simon Phillips Studio Library?
-
Are the toms hard-limited to a single voice or retrigger mode internally?
-
Is there any supported way to allow overlapping tom decays (true polyphony) with these kits?
-
If not, is this something Steinberg plans to address in an update?
Thanks for any clarification.
