Single keystroke for upbow/down bow marks?

Alt-Click is of limited use to me because I use the markings sparingly and often there is not a marking near the bar that I am working on.
I have now plugged in the commands to ! and @ using Dan’s method.

Sounds very useful, keep us updated!

I dunno about a subscription.
It’s a piece of USB hardware, and you can design and program keycommands to execute with a single press of a button.
Alternatively, you can buy pre-made icons and commands from Notation Central, those are very convenient and a little faster than scripted keycommands, because they use a special API to talk to Dorico.
It’s worthwhile to get the 32-Button XL Version, by the way.

Cheers,
Benji

For the record, I don’t think stream deck requires any sort of subscription, unless it has drastically changed its business model recently. It never used to.

I would use it on my iphone or ipad, and it appears to be subscription (I would not need yet another bit of hardware!)
But actually Dorico should implement this natively (like Logic does with ipad Remote), it would fit the program very well.

A little more complicated to find files in MacOs and, unfortunately, it doesn’t work. There’s a restriction in the .json file property and, by replacing it with the modified one, the keyboard commands no longer work.
Coming from Sibelius, I’m a guitar player and it’s really frustrating not to have a key command to insert fastly “downbow” and “upbow”.
I suggest that you consider including an option for this type of customization directly in the keyboard shortcuts screen or where you think it’s better. Thank you very much.

Welcome, @DanMatzy . Are you sure you’re editing the right file? There should be no restriction on the json file in the user library. If you’re editing the one inside the app bundle, I can see how that would cause problems.

The only json file with key commands it was in the Dorico directory inside Application Folder. Are there any further locations in which looking for it? Many thanks

You need to look in Users, and reveal the hidden Library folder.

Thanks a lot! Appreciate it! :innocent:

Many strings educators need to create worksheets and education materials with lots of bowings.

So?

I rarely create more than a single up/downbow mark from scratch in any project. Everything is added by grabbing the nearest one and alt-clicking it to where I need it (which you can repeat any number of times), or copying a pattern (Filter>playing techniques) and again alt-clicking that pattern wherever it is needed.

It is all so quick and easy - and I don’t need to remember yet another key shortcut.

thanks for the tip for copying a pattern. I am sure that will come in handy.
