SL8 Reactivation

Hi! I bought SL8 in 2022 and 3 years later I find it to be unsupported and unactivated? What is going on? I use it mostly for real-time spectral analysis (bats) but had to recently switch to a new computer because rain got to it.

With the eLicenser shutting down by May (no email notice), I’m getting anxious about a 300e piece of software being bricked in such a relatively short period of time.

The only support recourse I have here in Singapore is for a Yamaha local distributor here which sells music equipment.

Hi, I have my SL8 perfectly registered and activated.

You need to replace the eLicenser. For this, just follow the steps that firstly appear after a Google search of “steinberg elicenser replacement”. Or either check one of the links further on that same page.

The good news are that upgrading old licenses still possible after may 20th 2025 when the old licensing system dies out.

Did you change to USB e-licenser, or did you get the new Steinberg licensing license?
I tried following the checklist (Steinberg’s Checklist for the transition to Steinberg Licensing), but there are no vouchers and the grace period says there’s nothing to be updated.
I also tried exploring the upgrade process (Steinberg Licensing Upgrades from eLicenser-based products), but got an error saying that it has already been activated.
My eLicenser is active and up to date, but I’m worried about not being able to bring it on to a new computer.

Yes, apparently the fact that Steinberg is phasing out the e-licenser means that no more online service is going to be available from them. No new installations will be facilitated by their online associated systems.

Steinberg has also said that the functioning licenses working both; software e-licensers and hardware USB e-licensers will keep working for the future as they do now.

As I interpret it, I may keep using my Steinberg and Spectralayers software in my actual PCs. The issue might arise, as you mention, when the time comes to replace my present computer, or when I decide to shift from Windows 10 to Windows 11 or 12! for that matter.

Fortunately, Spectralayers has had such a steep and wide evolution in its recent iterations that I see little use of earlier version’s licenses.

Except, that is, for upgrading from these licenses. For this, just yesterday I made sure that I had everything related to Steinberg e-licensers up to date. Also made copies of the pages, codes, licenses, everything I could gather into a couple of folders.

Plus!! emailed support asking for the possibility for me to update from these licenses into Spectralayers’ latest version… Also acknowledging that my budget is going to take some time to recover and be ready for it. With that email I expect to hold further proof to validate with them potential updates from my, as today, existing Steinberg licenses.
