Hello.
I have recently went from Finale to Dorico Pro 5. I am new to Dorico.
I am trying to write a little piece here taken from the song Campbell’s Farewell To Red Gap on mandolin both standard notes and TAB. As shown in the picture I am struggling with the notes where one note is sliding up to 7th fret so to notes are played simultanously to same pitch where one half note is pointing upwards and the same note is pointing downward. I would be very glad if someone could help me. Thank you.
@Wounded_Knee, I added “Mandolin” to your thread title in the hopes that it will be clearer and draw in more quickly someone who can help. I hope you don’t mind. Sorry I have nothing to contribute by way of an answer, but I expect someone here will know.
Is the problem, @Wounded_Knee, that you’re not sure how to input this music? Creating unison notes that appear with both up- and down-stems should be easy enough: simply add a second voice and then input the down-stem note in the new down-stem voice. You can decide how that should appear in the tab by setting the String property for the new note.
For the slide, I suggest you use a glissando created either via the Ornaments panel or using the Shift+O popover. However, you will have some fun and games when it comes to the partial slide in the second ending bar, since Dorico doesn’t handle this kind of thing automatically at the moment. You could perhaps use a straight lift jazz articulation to approximate the appearance of the partial slide in the second ending bar.
Yes, I have some problem how to input unison notes with stems up and down. I was able to figure out how to use the glissando. I wil experiment a little bit with this and see what I can do. Thank you for taking time to reply.
My favorite way to enter unison notes is:
- Select the note(s)
- Shift I and enter 1 to add unison – the new notes remain selected
- V to move them to the other voice
(or Shift V if you need to create the new voice)
( P.S. Are you actually in S.D.? Just curious. )
Thank you for the tips. I will try it later today. (Not shure what you mean with S.D).
Your handle makes me think of South Dakota.
This is a little test for guitar of what I was trying to do. In the beginning of measure 3 I was not able to add a 0 on the 3rd string (open G-string) in addition of the one on 5th fret in TAB.
From the image it appears you created one new voice for the half note, and then another new voice on the quarter note – which would then be another up-stem voice.
Once you have a second voice, you can switch to it with V.
Shift V always creates a new voice.
Okay, I’ll give it a try. Thanks.
Thanks for all help. I think I have found a solution, but I have to fiddle with the notes and TAB to make it work.
