Hi everyone. I was wondering if there is a way to have the contents of an audio event slip into the next or previous region of the audio clip.
A use case would be:
1- I import an audio file with various variations of the same sound into the project
2- I would use hitpoints to create a region per variation
3- and then I would duplicate my event, and slip its content to the next region in order to use a different variation from the first time
Is this already possible to do? I could not find an answer online.
Thank you!

I’m not sure, but I don’t think you can.
But even if you could, aren’t you taking the long way around by creating regions, then duplicating events, then slipping the content to the next region? You’ll end up with simply two events from the same audio clip, and you can achieve that by creating events from hitpoints directly and then just using the ones you want.
Thanks for the reply.
I understand your point. I work in game audio, and something like this could actually speed up the process of creating new variations out of a sound made up of different layers and which timing is important for each event.
I’ve been working the way you describe, but the idea of having a custom macro where I can duplicate a group of events and slip its contents to a different hitpoint/region while keeping the starting points of the events sounds good

I’ve found a similar question being asked for the same purpose: Slip editing audio clip to next hitpoint
yes thanks for bringing this up @carlos.y. I agree there would be value to this especially for gameaudio variations with good organized source material sfx. i’ve been wanting to figure a workflow for this as well but could not find an effective way to streamline it. Like it seems to work when we do cycle loop records so maybe there is a way for Nuendo to setup the regions similar to REC takes- so we can cycle through them. Would be great for variations.

So I ran a few experiements and you can almost do this the way you might be imagining, however there is no slip feature to next region or hotkey to make it a bit more efficient. So I will make a post for a feature request as I think it will be great to have.
Right now you can make your hitpoints into regions and then you can “shift right click” and you should get the ability to switch different regions. Called “Set to region” - it will show up as long as the event has regions. So you can copy paste a new sound set and then change and mix match different regions. I would definitely want a hotkey for this as I coudn’t change more then one at a time and have to always go into the menu to do it. I coudn’t make a macro or project logical editor for it either so far.

This sounds great. I will do a test soon. Thanks for following up!
I gave this a try and it works really well. I agree that it would be fantastic to have the ability to assign a hotkey to that action. But this is definitely an improvement!

Interesting. I’ve honestly never used hit points but want to maybe use it to speed up my workflow.
However I’m not getting this to work. What do you do step by step and in which window?
where are you shift right click on what exactly? and do I
You need to create different regions inside the sample editor. Then, you can “shift + right click” on the audio event, and you will get the option to select a different region.

Thanks Carlos, didn’t have too much time today to describe it. This is bringing alot of ideas on how to perfect this feature for game audio so I do want to do a little video demo describing ways in which it can be a nice feature for making variations and with the right hotkey function maybe even a macro that can randomize the regions. Hopefully Steinberg will take note. Especially since with Reaper scriptiing we will need more flexibility to compete.

Ah I had my shortcut for the tool modifier set to Option-Shift… duh
Hello beautiful people, thank you for this golden info. I made a post long ago and I was struggling to get this to work properly. I’ve developed some sort of macro which worked fine for me if you had one file selected. I haven’t thought about using regions, I will try this out and update you all!!! It could be game changer.
Meanwhile, here’s my macro, maybe we can fuse our ideas together haha
There is a PLE command which multiplies audio length then cuts it, but thats pretty simple to make. If you need help with that let me know!

the regions work wonders. Does anyone have a key command or a PLE config to switch regions? I can’t seem to find one
Thanks for sharing - maybe we start a PLE sharing posts, however for this I dont think there is one available and why I want to request the feature.
