Hi, I’m new here and I’m wondering why the Slur Tool in Write Mode is the only expression that can’t be turned off by mouse click? All other accents can be turned on and off by clicking on them with the mouse but Slur must be turned off by Shift-S. Am I missing something?
Hi @jam4jah , and welcome to the Forum!
This is because, as with nested tuples, you may want to create “nested slurs”. So, as for the tuplets, there is a 2-keys-shortcut to deactivate it.
It is a little hidden feature, but if you, in note input, click once on the S (or on the slur icon with the mouse), Dorico creates a slur for the inputted notes, and if you press again the S (or the slur icon with the mouse), it creates a second “layer” so that you can create a “nested” slur below the first one. You need also to deactivate both these “layers” clicking then twice on the shortcut Shift+S (clicking with the mouse on the slur icon would create another “nested-slur-layer” on top, so the only unambiguous way to deactivate these slur layers is with the shortcut)
But anyway, it is also possible to add the slurs afterwards, not in note-input.
Here a short video (observe the pressed keys overlay: I press S a second time after inputting the first note of beat 2 to create the second “slur-layer”, and at the end of the bar I pressed the shortcut shift+S twice to return to the “no slur” situation)
Here a helpful video:
Thanks Christian! That would explain why I have 20 slurs over two notes! I just kept clicking the slur with my mouse to try and turn it off. LOL! I literally crashed Dorico while I was trying to turn it off by clicking it! LOL! I just came over from Finale and I’m drowning! Ha! I’ve been watching video after video to learn how Dorico works. I know I’ll get it eventually. Thanks again!
Exactly.
And please don’t feel overwhelmed: take your time to learn a little bit every day. Soon you will see how everything is logical, consistent and elegant in the conception and workflow of Dorico. And you will love it!
And remember that there are various ways to do something in Dorico, with the time you will see what works better for you (I know, at the beginning there may be many informations to digest )
