I’ve noticed while watching third party Dorico tutorials and reading some of the posts here on the forum that some people don’t realise that you can use the Alt key to change the type of dotted and grace notes, as well as of the voice. Here is a brief explanation:
- Dotted notes: You can use the Alt key to change the length, i.e. the number of dots. This works in both input mode and when a note is selected. Now you have to hold down Alt while repeatedly pressing . until you have selected the desired dotted note length. Depending on your settings, the time signature and grouping, this will be notated as such or as tied notes.
- Grace notes: It is also possible to change the type of grace notes using the Alt key. Again, you must have either selected a note or be in note input mode. You can switch between two types here: acciaccatura (a crossed-out note) and appoggiatura (a note that is not crossed out). To do this, hold down Alt again and press - (repeatedly) until you have selected the desired type.
- Voice: You can select the type of voice to be notated by holding down the Alt and Shift keys and repeatedly pressing V. Here you can switch between slash notation with and without a stem. If you want to notate normal notes, do not press Alt. Once you have created a voice with an alternative notation type, you can switch between voices as usual using V.
That’s it for my little tips today; I hope I was able to help someone!
PS: I would be very grateful if someone could explain to me how to properly write key symbols in this forum. Thank you in advance!
PS 2: Thank you, @Alberto_Maria, for telling me how to create the key symbols!
