Snare drum articulation (weird notation)

I’m inputting a pretty simple 2-grace-note ruff into a downbeat, on a snare drum stave.

Why do those circles appear around the grace notes? I didn’t intend for them to be there. How do I remove them?

Try this:

Select the two notes.
Right-click on one of them (or go to Edit menu).
Notations > Notehead > Reset to Default Notehead.

Also, while the notes are selected, press alt-shift up- or down-arrow. It will cycle through a few different types of noteheads.

Circled noteheads usually mean a rim shot.
I notice they’re the first menu item in Notations > Notehead >.
