Updated both Win11 and Cubase 14 – now getting an e-licenser error when I start Cubase. When I try to repair the e-licenser I get this message:
“The Soft e-Licenser stored on this computer seems to be altered in an unrecoverable way. Please contact your software vendor to solve the issue.” Did Steinberg de-activate e-licenser early?
No, they didn’t deactivate the eLCC earlier than announced.
Have you checked your Activation Manager for vouchers/licenses and activated/redeemed everything (you should do this anyways)? Afterwards you could try to dowload the latest eLCC and run it again.
Try to follows the reactivation procedure described Here
Thanks JuergenP, but the e-licenser is unusable, so I can’t activate/re-activate anything. Somehow it was corrupted (or disabled) by one of the s/w companies that use it (99% of my e-licenses are Steinberg).
Run elicenser as admin. Then run maintenance.
And you’ve specifically run elicenser as admin??
Yes, I did
Have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling elicenser control?
No, but the USB stick portions of elicenser are working correctly. It may not be an issue, because I had tried to move everything to the new license scheme anyhow, but since I can no longer see my e-licenses, I don’t know what may/may not work, plus I don’t want to see the error message every time I start Cubase.
Well you should probably try it…I very much doubt it will make anything worse and it may sort your issue. Otherwise you could wait for Steinberg support to suggest exactly the same things
Thanks - uninstall/re-install eLCC did the trick
Same issue here. I thought we were DONE with this USB dongle by now? Apparently not, nothing worked when I started without it.
What product releases do you use?
What problem did you see when you started?
I have two computers for music production. As I only got one Cubase license, I never use both for Cubase simultaneously. While I switched to a freshly built PC, I figured I would not have to physically move the dongle every time I switched computers. No luck. Strange error messages, for example “hardware has changed” and so forth. Moving the dongle to the computer I want to use works. I have only tried Cubase so far on the new PC, not yet installed Wavelab and Spectralayers on it.
If you have Cubase 12 or later you don’t need the eLicenser anymore.
If you still need to connect the dongle you still have some products that require it. Open the eLicenser Control Center and Look at the licenses, If they are marked as Upgrade to Steinberg Licensing they are switches to the Activation Manager. If not you need either updates or Look for vouchers in your online profile.
