Softube Console 1 Fader MK 3 and Cubase/Nuendo

Hi
I have been struggling all day with Fader MK 3 and Nuendo. In a project that I have been working on for a period I suddenly hade all Mute buttons blinking. No way I could make it disappear! Asking Claude has not been helpfull so I turn to Steinberg Forum. Does anybody here has a Combi of Fader MK 3 and Nuendo working?
If yes: Is the Fader MK 3 visual in the MIDI Remote window? It is in Cubase, but not in Nuendo.
Have you found a way to prevent MIDI tracks from being shown on the Fader?

Have you experienced that a project suddenly stops working with the Fader?

Any help much appreciated!

Sounds familiar…

I also use Fader Mk3 with Nuendo. Don’t know your workflow, but two different ways of using it.

Inside the Softube ecosystem (= loading a plugin on each track). Tried this a lot and long time with Nuendo, in project with a lot of (big) virtual instruments. Combi Console 1 Channel and Fader. Softube is always slowing down Nuendo, makes opening existing projects hard (freezes a lot of time).
So I quit this part (as I changed working in immersive, the Softube system is not relevant anymore anyway, as that is only stereo).

Without Softubes plugins and with the direct communication of Softube controllers with Nuendo. This works most of the time, but as you said: sometimes there is weird behaviour (knobs not reacting, the hardware is freezed, does not load properly). But that is just occationally. Most of the time the integration is perfect. Also with the Channel, as you can control Nuendo’s channel strip right away! So, in general I don’t have (big) problems with this.

The Fader needs to be showns in MIdi Remote, as the communication between Softube and Steinberg is done (under the hook) through Midi Remote. If the Fader does not show in Midi Remote, that is the first problem to be solved. Check if the Fader is listed in your midi devices.
I used to have that once too, and then the reason was a usb hub. Connecting it to a more expensive powered hub was the solution.

Hi
The second solution seems to be better. But although the script definitely is in the correct folder, Nuendo doesn’t find it! Cubase does though. What about MIDI tracks? Was you able to keep them out of the Fader?

Well this is strange! I disconnect my Fader MK 3, launch Nuendo 15 and connect my Fader MK 3. No tracks in Nuendo but the Fader shows that there is one track nr. 47. Then I close Nuendo and the Fader still shows one track nr. 47!!!
What is going on?

The fact that the Softube Fader shows a track/multiple tracks when closing Nuendo, or even when opening a new project still showing the tracks from the previous project: that is really one of those Softube things.
Softube help desk can’t help with this. The main reason is that both SSL and Softube wan’t to sell their own ecosystem, and see general DAW control as a second POS.

Talking about SSL: I have the UF8 too, and there (in Mackie Control mode) you can select (with just a button) to see only the audio track, only the groups/folders, only the FX channels etc.
This as answer to your other question: no, Softube will show you all channels without any differentiation. You can’t adjust those by yourself.
This makes me use the SSL more than the Softube (especially when producing in immersive!).

I have encountered similar issues with my Console 1 Compact (ghost tracks). I restarted the OSD app and everything worked fine again.

However (I am only starting out with Console 1) it seems to be more reliable with the plugin inserted and in “compact” view (displaying only tracks where the plugin is inserted).

I tried this a long time. When you work in stereo and mainly with audio tracks, this can be fine. But in a session with a lot of heavy virtual instruments (and when you have several midi controllers connected), Softube is slowing down your system when inserting Console 1 tracks on all tracks.
I wish it would be different, but I tried it a few years…

Am I right in the conclusion, that it’s NOT possible to lock the selection in the Nuendo mixer to Fader MK 3?
So when I select only Group Channels in the Nuendo Mixer, Fader MK 3 will nevertheless show all channels?

That is my understanding, yes. I read somewhere that was a limitation with Cubase MIDI Remote but that may be an old excuse. On my Compact there is something called favorites but thats only one view.

For the plugins with the compact my work around is to use console 1 plugins mostly on folder groups then I use the compact view. But for faders I rely on my old Avid Artist with either the Eucon layouts (Fader sets local to Eucon) or the visibily settings in Cubase (as Eucon allows switching between both). I wish Softube could implement either layouts or rely on Cubase visibility settings.

Indeed, the Fader will always show all channels, as it is not a MCU or Eucon device.
A positive way of looking at this: you don’t have to open all tracks in the project window (for instance extra outputs of a drum track, or extra outputs for extra mic positions of one instrument track); on the Fader you can see all tracks and subtracks without have to open a folder.
But for selecting tracks on a fader controller you need MCU or Eucon (that why it works with SSL UF8 or with Avid).
