1.In a score with a choir layout, I want to add Solo I as a cue. Should I use a voice change instead of the usual cue notation method, or should I add a separate instrument to represent Solo I?
2.When setting up a layout in a full score, can the beam and stem directions change?
A new voice would make sense for a short solo. A new divisi (if your Sopranos are set up as Section Players) might make more sense for an extended solo - or if it is just a single player then you can add a new staff etc.
Do you mean can they be set up differently than the equivalent part layouts?
Assuming (from what you have shown) that the soloist does not sing at the same time as the chorus, what you have is fine. If you want the soloist to use a different sound file, just put the solo notes in a different voice.
If set to “divisi,” the soprano line splits into two staves, and when trying to insert a cue into the same part, only “Soprano (B)” is available.
Would changing the voice be the best choice?
Well, you cannot cue an instrument to itself .
Maybe you are misunderstanding the functionality of cues? What are you trying to do?
Please, post the file, as suggested, with a detailed explanation of your wishes.
k.k
do you know, where to find your project file on your computer?
It would be a file with the extension .dorico
If you don’t know, where this file sits, do the following:
From within your open Dorico project (the one you are just working on and wish advice for) do a ->File->Save as. Select a place you can easily find, like your desktop.
This is the file which you should upload into this forum, to get instantly the most valuable help and assistance. Posting screenshots only leads to much guesswork and wastes the time of fellow forum members who have opted to help you.
According to the cue definition I found, cues can’t be used directly within the same staff . I worked around this by using a voice change instead. Thanks for your assistance
