[solved] “Finale” is damaged and can’t be opened. ..move it to the Bin

Hello,

it feels strange posting it here, still: I upgraded to a new mac and Sequoia 15.3.1
Using the Migration assistant I moved almost everything to the new machine. Strange thing though, this message keeps popping up:

“Finale” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Bin.

This file was downloaded on an unknown date

I don’t know how to proceed. I deleted the application, re-downloaded and -installed.
Still I can not open Finale, this message keeps popping up. If I tick “Open with Rosetta” same thing. Anyone with a solution for this strange occurrence? Thank you in advance.

Probably best to ask them? (I know it is not authorized officially for Sequoia, but worth a try asking them too.)

Problem solved: the security settings of macOS had to allow Finale to be opened..

That’s good news!

You can also right-click the application, select Open, and then OK in the dialog that appears. However, I can’t remember the wording in the dialog.

Thanks Jesper, I’ll try this next time I see this (i.m.o. misleading) message.

It just happened to me after a macOS security update. Several of my apps showed something about being damaged because of the wrong installation date.

No longer. In Sequoia, you can only allow it in the Settings panel.

Usually, the “damaged” message means that the app has been modified, or the certificate has expired; and you need to reinstall it or restore a backup copy.

Come September, you’ll need to make sure that you have the F27 installer, and backup copies of the app and component files (and Garritan products), in case you need to restore a pristine version.

Yikes, I’m still on Ventura, so I didn’t know. Good that they take security seriously, but it’s getting rather annoying.
