SOLVED: How Accurate is Cubase Pro 14 LUFS Meter?

I’ve been using the Fabfilter L2 Pro limiter when mastering to a specific lufs output, in Cubase Pro 14.

The integrated lufs read out from the fabfilter is different from that of the lufs meter in Cubase. The difference can very from around 0.3 to more than -5 lufs.

Does anyone know why that’s happening and which one is correct? Thanks for any helpful reply.

As far as I know, minimal deviations of LU values between different meters can occur, because of different implementations, and afaik is also allowed for an EBU compliant meter.
-5 LUFS is definitely to much and can probably be explained by some other factor, not due to the inaccuracy of the meters. Are you sure that both meters are set up to measure the same thing?

That sounds like something else went wrong.

Also, are you talking about the built-in meter in the right hand pane or wherever it is, or are you talking about the Supervision plugin?

Yes, the built in meter in the right hand pane. I don’t know what the Supervision plugin is, or how to use it.

It is set to measure integrated lufs as is the Fabfilter limiter.

I’m fairly new to Cubase and to limiters, but yesterday the readings I was getting between the two meters was quite far apart.

UPDATE: I have just done a quick test, and they are very close at times (-10.3 / -10.4 for example). With about 0.2 - 0.3 difference at worst.

It looks like the issue is somehow resolved - and I promise you it wasn’t my eyesight. You may be inclined to differ!

Since Integrated LUFS is to measure signals over an entire time span you must make sure that both meters are reset before you begin the playback, ie. they start to measure at the same time.

It is a stock plugin of Cubase Pro. It lets you analyse a signal in different ways. One of the ways is loudness mesaurement. It does not alter the sound, it only displays the analysis. You should check it out, it is rather easy to use.
