"SOLVED" Natural harmonic on major 6th above open string (2/5 node) not working

Setup: Dorico 5.1.81

Instrument: Cello, string III (G string, open G2)

Issue:
I’m notating a natural harmonic on the G string using the 5th partial (touch node → sounding pitch B4/490 Hz). This partial has two valid touch nodes on the string:

  • 1/5 of the string length → touch note B2 (major 3rd above open string) → plays back correctly as B4
  • 2/5 of the string length → touch note E3 (major 6th above open string) → does not play back correctly; Dorico appears to calculate the wrong sounding pitch (or defaults to a different partial)

Both nodes are acoustically identical and should produce the same 490 Hz harmonic on a real instrument — the E3 touch point is simply the second occurrence of the 5th-partial node further up the string, past the octave point. Dorico’s harmonic pitch calculation seems to only resolve correctly for the node closest to the nut for each partial, not for the “duplicate” nodes that occur further along the string.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Cello, empty project, bass clef
  2. Enter a note with normal notehead at E3
  3. Apply natural harmonic, 5th partial (touched pitch notation)
  4. Compare playback to the same setup using B2 as the touch note (which is correct)

Expected: Both should sound B4.
Actual: Only the B2 version does.

I saw related reports (e.g. “Natural harmonics playback” and “natural harmonics node issue” threads) suggesting the Node property doesn’t reliably fix this either — flagging in case it’s the same underlying calculation issue for secondary nodes of the same partial.

We improved this in Dorico 6, so it should now be working correctly there, but not in Dorico 5.
