When I make new projects, only some instruments automatically load in HALion sonic. This means that for instance every time I do a project with drums or upright bass, i have to manually create and route them to the right channels in HALion sonic and the playback mode. This is doable, but a bit annoying to do all the time. Is there a fix?
An example could be these players in setup mode, that inly correspond with these instruments.

The easiest remedy is simply to (re)apply a playback template.
Go to Play>Playback templates choose your template and hit Apply & Close.

I suggest you change your preferred playback template to the one where HALion sonic AND GASE are listed (Groove Agent SE being a very good drums instrument) in the Preferences.

Thanks! That solved the upright, but the drums are still an issue. I realised, that I don’t have GASE installed, and apparently my license doesn’t cover GASE (or at least the version that I can currently download… I have Dorico 4 Pro (w. student discount) and can only find a download for GASE 5 in the Steinberg Download Assistant. Dunno if that’s the reason why).
I bought a new computer in the fall, and haven’t had any issues with Dorico before that, but the playback has been doing weird stuff like this since. I won’t exclude the possibility that I’ve botched something in the shift…
Hi. You are right : GASE (and Iconica sketch) was added in Dorico 5. It might be time for an upgrade (you shouldn’t regret it)
That makes perfect sense and I wish I could, but I’m still a music student and money are tight. Dorico 4 is still a strong enough tool for the jobs I have atm, when I start getting better paid engraving and composition gigs I do plan on upgrading.
For now, I’d just love to have the Dorico I have work as usual. I was able to make the drums sound on my old computer. I have tried reapplying the playback template, but it still doesn’t create drums of any kind as part of the playback template. I have reapplied HSSE+HSO (Pro factory settings template). I’ve also tried making a custom template that includes HSSE+HSO, and I’ve of course closed and reopened both Dorico and my computer.
I can find plenty of kits in HALion and apply them manually, so it’s not that the drums are completely missing, just from the templates. If there’s no solution, I’ll just keep doing it manually until I eventually upgrade.

There should be a solution, but I admit I’m not using Dorico 4 since quite a long time! Sorry I can’t help you better… I don’t know why HALion doesn’t load the kit automatically
