Are you asking, does the Fraunhofer MP3 codec sound better than Lame? Personally, at >256kbps I usually can’t tell the difference, but it depends on the material.
Well, if you are talking about the Sonnox Pro Codec the answer is ‘yes’.
This is because the Sonnox allows you to listen, real time, to what the various codecs do with your track.
You can do offline encoding as well (no batch processor unfortunately).
Additionally, it will also allow you to audition the ‘difference’ … what information is removed by the codec.
If you are mastering professionally it is easy to make the case that it is an invaluable tool.
