Sorting Sends in any Channel

I find the management of the audio send slots a bit illogical. Not being able to order them via mouse, the drop-down menu system should keep the reference values of each single effect instead of busting all the values.
I’ll give you an example: if I have a compressor at -7 and a reverb at -26 and a saturation at -14 when I decide to move the reverb to the top, then instead of the compressor, the reverb goes to -7 and then the compressor placed in the second slot goes to -26… What’s the point? This already complicated system of ordering the slots in the audio sends does not have a minimum of logic.

Hi,

It’s the given Send slot level. So if you change the routing, the level remains.

That use-case is just one though. Suppose instead that you have your reverb in send #2 at -26 and rather than swapping it with the compressor send in send #1 you instead decide to send to a different destination; a different reverb. Now would it make sense to have the send level change or stay the same? And so you have to look at it from the software’s point of view: How does the software know if you’re trying to replace same with same or one thing with another? Because this isn’t drag-and-drop, right? It’s basically reassigning the send destination.

Not being able to use the mouse, the only possibility to send it to another destination is to recreate the send at level 0 on the other channel. This use-case does not exist.

I still don’t find any logic in the already illogical way of sorting the send slots.

I don’t even really understand what that means, honestly.

Send slots traditionally haven’t been sorted by hard- or soft-ware but rather by the user when setting up the project/session. It was the exact same back when we used analog consoles. We physically attached whatever we needed to the send outputs and the signal from whatever device was connected came back on returns. That’s the behavior that’s carried over to DAWs. I’m not sure what “sorting” you’re talking about.

How would the software know what level a signal should be according to you when you switch the destination? It can’t read your mind.
