Sotto voce in theory and in Dorico

I have some questions about „sotto voce“ which I found in the ouverture of Rossini‘s Otello (e.g. basses).

  • How many measures is sotto voce played? I could not find any opposite instruction or line to indicate the length.
  • In theory, how would one indicate the length of sotto voce? By a line?
  • How would you write this with Dorico? By a custom dynamic expression? I think there is nothing for it in Dorico standard elements.

I guess the F dynamic 5 bars later would countermand sotto voce. Whether the same texture is required 3 bars later – you’d have to check the full score for context.

I would add a dynamic, add sotto voce as a suffix, and then hide the intensity marking.
