I’m running Cubase 13 pro version, which is working great when I mix and master on my computer with the onboard sound card. However, when I record with an external sound card it seem the connection is broken for a couple of ms every now and then. This seems to build up more and more as I go during a recording session. I’ve never experienced this behavior before on the same hardware (computer + sound card). I have tried to change buffer size and some other stuff suggested online etc with no luck. How do I solve this crippling issue…?
USB interface?
Make sure to disable usb selective suspend.
In device manager open properties of each thing titled USB HUB and untick “allow computer to turn off this device to save power” in the power management tab.
I ticked off all usb hub according to your suggestion but the issue still remains. One thing I noticed is that I can’t open the Control Panel for my sound card (Presonus Auidobox 44VSL). Why is that?
Edit: It seems the issue goes away if I close some of the background processes such as drop box etc. I still don’t feel confident that I’ve resolve the issue but I guess it is caused by something going on with some of the background processes.
Resplendence Software - LatencyMon: suitability checker for real-time audio and other tasks
sounds like your are experiences latency problems. you can run this program to check it.
You don’t say much about your system, but if on PC the first thing to do is to check your power scheme. Look into Ultimate performance, or maybe just activate the Steinberg power scheme in the setup
When I have LatencyMon running in the background I get this message: Conclution: Your system appears to be having trouble handling real-time audio and other tasks. You are likely to experience buffer underruns appering as drop outs, click or pops. One or more DPC routines that belong to a driver running in your system appears to be executing for too long. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling setting in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates.
This would be why you experience problems when recording. These problems can be challenging to fix. When you are running latency mon you must also remember to press stop on the program, that way you could hopefully see what the problem factors could be.
If you so lucky that your problems are gone by changing the power settings you are lucky so just stick with that and continue working
Realtime audio is quite system demanding. You should definitely use high performance power plan and avoid any other running programs. If issues persist check this:
