Speaker Configuration Unresponsive

I have been using WL for ages now with just 3 audio connections busses: Main Playback, To Analogue Chain, and Headphones. Resp, to RME AES1+2; 3+4 and 7+8.

I have used both Main and Headphones every day, until now. WL12 is refusing to recognise the Headphone Bus, no matter how many times I check the configuration, refresh the configuration, restart WL or pray.

As headphone checking is an essential part of my mastering process I need to fix this asap. Any ideas? Many thanks.

What do you mean with that?

Mayby a routing problem?

WL is so overcomplicated in use…
It reminds me of this great book in physics: " Lost in Math: How Beauty Leads Physics Astray"
WL is great, but has lost its track on the fundamentals made easy, imho.

It might need a discussion about waht those fundamentals actually are. But that is a matter of the design process.

Please post a screenshot of your RME and WL Settings for users who have a similar setup to understand better.

Sorry I wasn’t clear. The headphone dac/amp is fed by AES 7+8 - it has been that way since I started using Wavelab. Normally this allows me to choose the Speaker Configuration button #2 at the bottom of the Master Output screen to change from Main Out to h/phones (or use the 1-P or 2P shortcuts. When I click on it now (or use the shortcut) is does not light and no signal is output from AES 7+8. Nothing has changed in any of the setting (I am mid-project) since it last worked.

As a work around, and a test of the routing, I am setting the Main Output bus to output to AES 7+8. This works, and has allowed me to get on with things.

Thank you, Eric

To be fair, I’ve found quite the opposite. I have a basic repertoire of uses for mastering and once learned (it wasn’t hard) WL has made my sessions much easier.

Ok - case closed - although I’m not sure how.

I went back to the Settings page and toggled the main controls - AES choice and Bus Category - between the settings that I needed and other options. This seemed to unstick something that was stuck because now it all works as it should.

Many thanks for the suggestions.

I definitely disagree. But maybe Wavelab Elements might be better suited for you? I’ve never used it before, but I assume it’s a stripped down version.

Well, I do use Audacity for certain basic tasks, which I don’t trust (out of naivity after discovering numerical issues) in Spectral Layers or Wavelab. It happens, that I must double check the results of SL or WL with Audacity.
Both programs are great on its own. I know Wavelab from the late 90s and just recently came back - bought WL12 and… I do find the gui inconsistent and not at all very intuitive. Maybe I am just a lazy person, who likes to work easy peasy… or maybe WL12 has grown too far during the last 20 years.

Since I do point to this often here, it does not seem to be a very popular vote for some, who might take it personally. That’s fine with me. When it comes to numerical accuracy, I am not a fanboy of any program, just the scientific facts count (for me).
