I’ve created a new instrument definition for a three-staff keyboard instrument, which I’ll be using in a Keyboard/Conductor Score—the top staff being for instrumental “cues”, and then a brace around the last two staves, signifying a “grand staff”.
However, for this custom instrument definition, I’d like a way to place the chord symbols between the braced quasi-grand staff, as opposed to the top of the “cue” staff. Is there any way to do this?
I wonder if you’d get better (i.e., simpler to work with) results if you had a player with a 1-staff instrument for cues and a second player with a piano grand staff together in a player group?
Rather than create a new instrument, could you not just right-click>Staff>add staff above a normal piano and in Layout options>Chord symbols and diagrams position chord symbols to be between the grand stave?
So, I just tried that. But what I can’t seem to do (and it may just be on my end) and need is the following:
• Hide that cue staff in the Full Score by (what I’ve been doing) clicking the SYS. BREAK + STAFF VIS. signpost, and in that pop-up window, clicking Keyboard/Conductor (a)>Hide.
• Yet still have that staff show in the Piano/Conductor part.
Does this explanation make sense? It hid that “cue” staff when I was using the three staff instrument; but when I just use the Add Staff Above option, it doesn’t seem to hide that cue staff.
Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you only wanted a piano/conductor score, not a full score as well.
I think @judddanby’s approach is best. Create a separate one line Cue Staff. Remove it from the Full Score layout (which you can do this towards the end of your process, before you sort out detailed layout), but add it back to your Piano/conductor layout.
Still put the chord symbols between the stave (but remember layout options are layout specific, so do it for all layout involving the piano)
