Specifying split point

Is there a way to specify a specific split point in Dorico 5 so that notes below a certain place on my keyboard are always in the bass staff? I know Dorico tries to sense this, but sometimes it’s quite wrong and it would be much easier in some pieces if I could just specify the split point.

If only there was something like this, even a way to apply a split point after the fact. The only thing I’ve ever found that comes close is in the midi import options.

No, since we revamped real-time MIDI transcription (and MIDI import) in Dorico 4, we no longer have a fixed split point option. It is something that comes up from time to time and we have tasks on our backlog to consider reintroducing this.

That would be really, really helpful to bring the ability to specify a split point back. It would save so much editing time. Please, oh please bring this back!

Thank you for your consideration!

If it isn’t already on your list, a way to take an existing piano (or organ) part and apply a split point would be very helpful as well.

Using the key editor to marquee select all notes below your chosen split point, which can then be moved to the lower stave using alt-M, is quite quick.

I’ve never found a way in the key editor to view the entire piece of music. If there is a way, this is a good idea. But I don’t think it is, so if I want to do it this way for an entire piece it will take several passes. Not very quick.

Agreed. But it all depends how long your piece is, how complex it is, and how you define quick.

True enough, but I do miss the Sibelius plugin to change the split point of existing music.
