Spectral Layers with Nuendo?

Hi guys, I thought Nuendo came with Spectral Layers but it seems to be asking me to buy it. Can anyone clear this up?
Thanks!

It doesn’t come with SL, you have to buy it.

Is the confusion caused by Steinberg’s ‘complementary vs. complimentary’ use? There was a recent thread all about that recently…

It comes with Spectral Layers One, a lite version

To add…I believe Robin has renamed the included-with-daw-fewer-features versions to "Spectralayers Go’ (at least in pro tools).

Which imo is a good thing although Spectralayers “lite” would be an even-clearer designation (though cliche  )

There is sort of a nice ring to “Spectralayers Go” and “Spectralayers Pro”…pretty easy to guestimate which one may be more full-featured that way.

Thanks everyone!

It’s strange, in the Download Assistant there is a section for Spectral Layers and then there is “SpectralLayers 10.0.50 - Application” in the Nuendo 13 list of apps. I have that installed, but when I invoke it from the Extensions menu it complains that it isn’t authorized.

You have to buy that version. Spectral Layers One is included in the Nuendo install.

Not strange at all. If the download assistant specifically show as Spectralayers PRO, it is. If you don’t see the word “pro”…it isn’t.

My download assistant spectralayers area shows all my various ver PRO choices as those are what I bought and that’s how my licenses are.

I’ll mention that numerous other non-pro versions are also shown in my da areas…which I ignore.

well, it is a little strange because there’s all these different versions of SL And the one in my download assistant doesn’t specify. its not Go its not lite, not elements etc.

Anyway, they just announced a new sale this morning and there’s upgrade prices for almost every version. Do nuendo owners qualify for any kind of special pricing on SL Pro through this sale? @TimoWildenhain ? I see that it’s 40% off for everyone, I’m wondering if whatever version we have would be considered an upgrade?

Thanks!

Stripped down SL are available when one purchases Cubendo new.

If you have, as a separate purchase at a past point in time, purchased Spectralayers Pro for $299 or so (you would’ve remembered that purchase  ) your da would show all the existing free sl choices AND one or more PRO-labeled versions available to you.

At the moment, the Sl upgrade tabs…the ones that specifically say “upgrade”…are specifically and only referring to applicable to previous Pro licenses. Did you buy Pro for $299 or whatever in previous years? It appears you haven’t from what you describe.

For anyone who owns NO Pro version, you can buy it today until Dec 10 for $180 instead of $300. Nice savings.

Of course, there’s no deeper discount just because you have the free sl version that was given to you as part of a cubendo purchase.

Hope that clarifies for you.

“Of course, there’s no deeper discount just because you have the free sl version that was given to you as part of a cubendo purchase.”

In case you didn’t see this, you’re attitude is off- putting for no reason. I have both Nuendo and Wavelab so…it wouldn’t be “free” it would be an upgrade path for current users.

It’s worth adding that there is a crossgrade discount. I have RX-11, it looks like that could get me SLPRO for $119. This is true for anyone with RX8 or later. Standard or Advanced.

Another question I have, if it can be received as not annoying, is does SL offer anything substantially more/different over RX (or Wavelab). Spectral editing in general hasn’t won me over yet. Every time I go to do in RX I have to re-familiarize myself with it. For those who use SLPro in Nuendo, would you say it’s won you over? I’ve seen examples in Steinberg’s youtube video of editing that would be uniquely useful.

I think these are all valid questions. Indeed it is hard to find out what version of SL we get with Nuendo. SB need to do a few things:

  1. In the download manager correctly label SL version that comes with Cubendo as SL One
  2. In the comparison chart it should have the title "Spectralayers One (bundled with Cubase Pro/Nuendo)
  3. In the sale it should list SL One in one of the sale deals. Even if that means something like SL Full (including owners of SL One) or better still actually provide an upgrade path SL One, similar to Elements, clarifiying SL One is the version only available bundled with Cubendo.
